What is Cricut Design Space?

Cricut Design Space is a digital design application that is used to set up and lay out designs to create on the Cricut machine. Cricut Design Space™ includes a set of tools to create, modify and personalize all your Cricut projects. cricut.com/setup also includes an extensive library of images, fonts and pre-designed designs. The app is available for use on PC as well as many tablets and mobile phones, including iPhone and Android devices.

If you’re a Cricut Joy user (that adorable little turquoise Cricut machine that fits easily into your backpack), there’s also a dedicated Design Space app for Joy!

Note: If you are new to using any design software, don’t worry; there are many easy-to-create projects to help you get started. Design Space has a lot of options to help you get creative right away. You don’t need to be a design professional to create with Cricut.

What Is Changing In Design Space?

Cricut announced the transition from a web app to a desktop app and launched a beta in mid-2019. I was one of the users who downloaded Design Space for desktop the very first day it was available and have been using it almost exclusively ever since.

The good news is that little to nothing changes in the app itself. However, there is one great new feature: With Design Space for Desktop, you can now design and cut offline! (You still need an Internet connection to download the app for the first time and use some features, such as downloading images from Cricut Access.)

A big change is taking place in the location of the program. So far, Design Space has been hosted online as part of the Cricut website. From now on, you will need to download the program to your computer in order to use it. This is the same as any other program or application you may have downloaded, such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Word.

Cricut decided to switch to the desktop app because there are currently several browsers that do not support the online version and to be able to roll out new features in the future that may not be supported by web browsers. However, just as there were browser requirements for the online version, there are system requirements that your computer must meet in order to run the desktop version.

Cricut Design Space – An Introduction

“Cricut Design Space” is a dedicated and intuitive interface of the bundled application package for your Cricut device. This “canvas area” is technically the place where all the beautiful imagination comes to life in lines, shapes and dimensions. All the innovative magic of the Cricut Project happens in the design space.

The design space is also a studio where template designs can be further customized, tweaked or organized. This space allows you to download all the custom fonts and images you need for your child’s project, and offers a wide selection of premium images from Cricut’s stock image gallery. Users also have the option to purchase premium fonts one at a time if needed for a project.

How to download Cricut Design Space app?

It`s really easy to download Cricut Space Design app. Cricut Design Space is a free app that allows you to access the library of Cricut designs and layer them to create your own projects. You can download Cricut Design Space for Windows, on iOS, Android, and Amazon devices. cricut.com/setup app download is also available as a free download for Mac and PC.

How to use Cricut Design Space for PC?

Cricut Design Space download for PC: after you have logged in, you can start designing your own images. The app has an option of Cricut mats that can help you choose the type of mat you are using. You can either choose the standard mat or the premium mat. The premium mat has a lot more features. Once you have chosen the mat, you can start editing your image.

The app has a number of features that can help you create your own designs. You can use the cricut.com/setup app to create images that have text, stickers, and shapes. You can also add borders to your images. However, the app does not allow you to add borders when you are using the Cricut mats.

• Open the Cricut Design Space app on your laptop.
• Click on the Connect button.
• Enter your Cricut Design Space account information to log in.

Exploring the Insert Area to Use Shapes (such as Rectangles) in Your Design

The left menu bar, also known as the “Insert Area”, is what you’ll need to use to add a rectangular shape to the canvas area. If you take a look at the default left pane layout, you’ll see a “+ New” button at the top, followed by icons representing templates, projects, images, text, shapes, and downloads, in that order. We will use the Shapes tab on the left to launch a pop-up submenu with a graphical representation of all available default shapes. Note that the rectangle is not visible among the list of options at first glance. Don’t worry though – just select “Square” from the list of shapes (click the icon to get a square) and move on.

A square will now appear in the canvas area. You can resize a square element by dragging its vertices, or by clicking the element and changing its side length in the edit menu.

How to Use Cricut Design Space

Unlike most design software like Photoshop or Illustrator, Cricut Design Space is easy to use, especially for beginners. It may seem overwhelming at first, but it’s a breeze compared to the two design programs mentioned earlier.

In the My Projects section, click New Project or the + button. Start choosing a template or browse all available ready-to-create designs.

• You can start designing or editing them to make them your own.
• You can also search for images that you can use in your projects, just click on the “Images” tab.
• It also gives you the option to use your own images and fonts. Just download them and start designing.
• Experiment with the software until you can create all the designs and projects you need. It’s easy, fun and enjoyable. Don’t forget to save your projects!

How to Turn a Square into a Rectangle in Cricut Design Space (The Magic Step)

A square element is nothing but a locked rectangle element of fixed proportions in the Cricut.com/setup Space Design interface. To unlock these proportions and turn it into a rectangle, all you need to do is click on the tiny lock icon that becomes visible at the bottom left corner of the element when you hover your mouse pointer over the square element.

Once the image of the lock changes to an unlocked variant, you will notice that the Editing Menu allows you to manually enter different length and width variables for the same element. Playing around with these measurements to achieve your desired rectangular shape (Check out this glossary of precision terms – Measurement made easy with Cuemath) is one way to get a rectangle fired up. Another way is to manually drag the edges with your mouse and adjust the shape into a rectangle on the screen.
